Tractor

Just recently acquired 5 acres of land and built a house on it. It is mainly flat/gentle hill with a creek running though it. Main uses would be landscaping and mowing but I have an immediate need to clear some large trees with it.

Having been to a local Kubota and JD Dealer, they both recommend a "mid-size" tractor at the largest (B2920/JD 2720). They both tried to talk me into the (BX/1 series) lineup. After driving both a 2320 and a 3320, I felt that the 2320 "fit" me better size-wise and was then set to get a new 2720 w/ FEL & MMM(62D) based on the experience and desire for more power. However, I spoke to my neighbor who has a 3320 and he really recommended the 3X20 size. My budget is $20-$24k max and I would love to take advantage of the 0% on a new one.

Option #1: The local dealer has a 2006 3520 with FEL and MMM for $22K with 855 hrs.
Option #2: Order a 2720 with FEL and MMM ($22.5K online or work with local dealer on price here but I doubt that they will match)

Question is Used 3520 vs New 2720? Seems like I never see a "Wish I would have bought a smaller tractor." thread!

I appreciate your insight!

I have 3520 and I don't even think about mowing with it. I would say your first instincts are correct. The 30 20 series works for your neighbors needs but you probably don't have the same needs. I have aften thought it might be kind of nice to have a 20 20 series for the size.

BTW- my buddy has a 2520 and loves it as a mower. Get turf tires, more traction in the snow and easier on the lawn.

22k for 2006 with those hours doesn't seem like a deal.

runin1320, Hi neighbor!!! IMO, if your doing weekly mowing in your yard with it, 3XXX series is gonna leave tire tracks.. I have had two different 2520s since 2006 and have had no regrets for anything larger.. That being said, thats for what I do. Everyone has different needs, but I will say the 2520/2720s are a beast.

That 3520 wont have any warranty, while the 2720 would have and also 0%. If your dealing with Martin Bros in Roanoke, hope/or ask to talk to Jerry in sales, great guy..

I don't think its that bad a deal personally. the mmm and fel cost close to 9k alone. That machine has less than 1k hours on it. I dunno really im just thinking so not to dispute you bud

I'm biased to the B2920 as they just delivered mine Thursday. :D

All, thanks for the quick responses! I stopped by Martin Bros. today but it was after they were closed. They did have a new 2720 there. One thing I noticed was that it felt like I sat "in" the 3x20's and "on" the 2x20's.

I guess that part of it is that I have nothing now to use and have suffered through doing stuff manually or not at all. Our yard is a wreck and will need some major tilling and massaging to look nice. I just want to get something that will do anything I need it to....

Unless you are planning for lawnmowing to be the primary purpose, the 3xxx series will be more capable in every way. The 3xxx series is a bit hard on the lawn. Like you mentoned, it's rare for prople to have wished they'd gone with less size and top end capabilities.
If lawnwork is really what you're looking for and you don't need to lift over 1/2 a ton or run 25+ hp on the pto ever, a smaller, lighter machine makes for a much gentler lawnmower.
