4000 ten or 4000 twenty series? (4310 vs 4320)

Hello Everyone,

I've been laying low due to all of the hurricane associated issues that we've had here in Florida.

Our house will be finished shortly and I need to get a tractor soon.

I originally received a great quote on a new style JD4320 and loader which was 21% off list.

I've since bought my daughters 2 horses and didn't realize the horses were the cheap part. Lessons, boarding while we fence pastures, trailering, tack, supplies, etc., ... is tapping into my wallet worse than I thought.

We have 15 acres broken into 4 parts; a 5 acre cow pasture, a 3 acre yard, a 4 acre horse pasture, and 3 acres around my turtle ponds in the back.

Could I maintain this with a JD4310 or would I wear it and myself out? I'm not getting any more energy as the years go by and am worried about it being a tad small.

On the other hand the way my properties broken up I wouldn't have to mow it all the same day anyways.

Any comments and great price comparisons I could use?

You could maintain it quite well with the 4310. It is a different frame size, but there is not much that I can't do with the equivalent (Deere 4300) on my 22 acres. The 4320 is comparable to the 4510, 4610, and 4710 (and there are some previous threads relating the new series to these models).

Everything has its limits, but the 4310 is a lot of tractor (and you would be doing yourself a favor to get one to demo).

That's a lot off list on the new 4320. One would think the 21% off would be for the 4310. That much off the new price would make it hard not to go for the larger, new model.

Give it a couple of weeks. The new 3x20s will be announced. You can then choose between the 4310 and the new units which have significantly more power. Incentives will likely be better on the 10s till they are out of the pipe.

One other thing to consider - I doubt you'll be doing much mowing in the horse pasture. Our girls keep their field quite well trimmed - I've heard them referred to as 1000lb lawn mowers - it my experience that it's very true. Cattle I don't have any experience with, but I'll bet they can trim a field pretty well too.

As far as the 4310 and it's upcoming replacements, I am sure you'll find it's a powerful tractor capable of a lot - but if you can swing the larger model I can't see that you'd regret it. Either one would handle the duty you've described very well.

One note: The 4320 is the replacement for the 4610, not the 4310!!

The 4310 will (probably) be replaced by the 3120...

Just found this:

the mid-chassis 3320 and 3520 will be on sale from February 2005, with the new mid-chassis 3720 model starting full production next June.

That is in the UK. dates could be different in the US....

I would sure go with the 4320. I bet you will be cussing yourself for going smaller in less than a month.

Sorry bud... I really meant that as a general note... I guess seeing this threads title (4310 vs. 4320...) I can see how a lot of folks might think the 4320 replaced the 4310....
