I bought a 3520 a couple of months ago and sometimes feel that it is more than I need. I currently have just under 3 acres but will be moving to around 12, with apx 6 acres of "yard". I have a 3520 eHydro, R4's, 300CX and a Frontier BB2060 with IMatch. Around the current property, I obviously have more tractor than I need. Once I move to the new property, the tractors main use will be mowing, but I also would like to do side jobs like brush-hogging, spreading gravel, tilling gardens, clearing lots etc...
I know a guy that really wants my 3520. he has a like new 2210 4WD, hydro with turfs and a few suitcase weights. It also has a JD MMM, 60" I believe.
He wants to trade. I think I probably will not do it, but dont want to decide without at least thinking about it. Since 90% of the usage will be mowing I wonder if I would be making a good decision if I traded. A few questions: Will the 2210 handle the 5' box blade? How much(apx) would a loader cost and how much work will it do on the 2210? Is the 2210 a very capable machine relative to my 3520(I.E. half the $ investment)? I feel the 2210 with turfs and a belly mower will be better for mowing, just dont know if it is sufficient for small to medium side jobs. Bottom line is I will have about 60% as much money tied up in the 2210 after I add a loader, do you guys think it is worth it?

From what your described, I think trading down especially to a 2210 would be a HUGE mistake.
You can get a 72" MMM or RM finish mower for your 3520 and you will have an awesome mowing machine. The R4's will not be a problem for your lawn in dry conditions.
I think a 5' BB is a little big for a 2210, also the 2210 does not have position control on the 3PH making BB'ing more of a challenge.

As for bush hogging and tilling, the 2210 will only handle 4' units versus the 5' units your 3520 will handle without breaking a sweat!

These are just my opinions, and they are worth what you paid for them:D

I completely agree that the 3520 will do more work. I have a Woods 60" RFM on the way, but am a little concerned about tearing up my lawn mowing with this beast.
It just seems the 2210 would be perfect to mow with, so I was wondering if it was a capable earner as far as side jobs.

If the ground is dry you will have no trouble, just stay out of 4WD as that can tear up the ground when turning.
I think you could run a 72" RFM easily, why did you choose the 60"? With 6 acres to mow in your future, you should get the biggest your tractor will handle.

Also regarding the 2210, there is no cruise control on that model, and with 6 acres, the CC and the more comfortable seat suspension on the 3520 will be a godsend IMHO.

The 2210 is a very capable machine, but it's (obviously) not quite in the same class as your 3520. A new 200CX loader is going to be ~$2500. The deck should be the 62C deck (same as my 2305). The turfs will be easier on the 6 acres of lawn as would the weight of the 2210 vs the 3520.

The question here is not whether the 2210 would do the jobs you list (mowing, tilling, spreading gravel, brush-hogging) - it will. However, it will do it slower as it's a smaller machine.

If money is tight, this might be a viable option. If the guy who wants it is making a really good offer, this might be a viable option.

If it were me, I think I'd stick with the 3520 and look at a MMM to fit it considering the acreage you have.

Good luck with your decision!

Hi:

HMMM, a tough decision.

I have a 2305 with a 62" MMM loaded R4's and a 200CX loader I've had about a year, and a new 3320 (just a bit lower HP than your 3520) that I got about 3 weeks ago. I'm waiting on the 72"MMM but here is my comparison. For comparison purposes I'd bet the 2210 is just about the same as my 2305.

I didn't load the tires (Large R4's) but I'm going to now since I drove on my lawn last week wet with an 1100# ballast block and they still didn't sink in
on the 3320.

They lent me an 84" woods RFM that mows unbelievable and the 3320. I've been mowing mostly at 6-7mph and could go faster.
I'm convinced could easily handle a 96"RFM except maybe for a little slow down in foot high grass.

If speed is your choice I'd stick with the 3520. It'll probably mow a little faster, but the hydraulics are a ton faster on the 3xxx series than the 2210 or 2305 due to the faster pump rate.

I love both of them but the 3xxx series is a lot more tractor. I totally agree that anything you can do with the 3520 you can do with the 2210 only slower.

Good luck deciding.

I talked to the guy and he isnt willing to let go of enough cash to make it work. In the meantime, I just got my Woods RM550 and I think I did pretty good. It is raining so I just got to mow for about 30 seconds and all seems well. I dont know for sure what a good price is, the only new one I could find was $2180 before shipping, that sounds pretty high. Tell me what you think is a fair price for this. I am gonna try and post a pic. Best of all, it hooked right up to the iMatch.
