There was a recent thread about the x500 vs the x700 that turned into a discussion about past, and present x700 equivalants. I'm still curious about how folks like the current X500 series, how well they are holding up, and how easy the attachments mount, and remove. I asked this question on the yard, and garden forum, and got no responses, so I'm giving it a shot here.

I bought an X500 with a 54". I thought I would really like it but the tractor is
too narrow for the 54" deck. Nearly every time I went through a low spot,
swell, it would get stuck. The guage wheels on the deck stuck so far out from
the tractor tires it would hold it up in the air and it would just spin. Diff lock
didn't really help with both wheels nearly suspended in the air. I mow at 3.5"
and there's very little deck travel above that height. I wound up using the JD
Promise and trading up to an X720 with a 54". Haven't had a chance to use it
yet. I still have an LA130 with a 48" deck it never got stuck in the areas that
the X500 did. I've owned a JD GT235 and a JD 425 and I must admit the
X500 was the most disappointing of any JD's I've owned. With a 48" deck on
the X500 it might have been a non issue but 54" was what we were wanting.

Thanks so much for the input, that is the kind of thing I was interested in hearing about. I'm looking at a 54" deck too, and my land is pretty wavy, and rough. Actually I stopped at a JD place today, and watched a guy trying out a 534, but didn't try anything myself. I did climb under both an x728, and a 540 to see how the decks attached, and removed, etc.

I had an X540, 54" deck, and for the most part, was pleased with it.
It mowed very nice and the snow blowing was ok. Was
disappointed in the lift height of the snow blower. Loved the
hydraulic deck lift. Taking the deck off and on was not bad, just
have to get through it the first time to know what you are doing.
I could probably take it off in less than 5 minutes.
I needed to upgrade because of more responsibilities that I took on,
so moved up to the 2305. Love this machine.
