I love my 2010 X748 with 60D 7-Iron Deck, 45 Loader, 3-Bag MCS, but I've decided to sell it and get a new 1026R. Since switching to the X700 series I haven't been tempted by ANYTHING, but have looked at the new 1-series and, idk, I think they're nice. Am I nuts? Will I regret the change? I have a 3-point hitch and rear PTO, so I'm not gaining much. It's just that every few years I get the itch. Only 60 hours on the meter...I must be crazy.

I don't believe Deere recommends putting a loader on an X729, unless your looking to go to a different tractor.

I'm on my 3rd tractor in 3 years... but I'm crazy too! Life's short, enjoy it.

Our local JD Dealer just advised me to purchase a 1023R vs the X700 series with loader based on price comparison. Also, he advised the 1 series has better attachment selection for ground engaging capability. ie Much larger and heavier box scrapers, larger roto-tiller so you get less seat time because work is done faster.

The X748 with FEL is exactly what I need but they are expensive.

I hope that is not the case, I purchased the X729 with the intention of adding the Model 45 loader. It is one of the attachments shown for that model in the catalog and my dealer is watching for a deal for me. No real heavy work planned, just moving mulch around.

Maybe close to $3500 + Tax for the 45 Loader. The X700 series with deck is close to $7500, so now your into the 1023R price bracket. Also, check if your specific X700 has all the hydraulics it needs to drive the loader. If not then an auxilliary hydraulic pump install and control valve that drives the 45 Loader is needed...maybe another $600. Check with your dealer but your tractor is very capable and will run most if not all cat 0 hydraulic attachments which is suitable for a small property but they are not priced as a lower end machine because they are so capable. Keep in mind the X700's can have a 3pt hitch set up as well, try and price that part for your rig then compare the total price of the tractor unit plus 3pt hitch plus loader/hydraulics to the 1023R and you see where the dealer is coming from. Also, these are new/retail prices I'm blasting out there so these are subject to negotiation too.

Thank you Tommy. Thats my dream.

I needed a Lawn Tractor, 2.5 acre lawn, steep grade, lots of beds. Homeowner type use. AWS was important as was AWD. My mowing time has decreased from 4 hours to a really enjoyable 2.5. I love my X729, really more than the task requires.

My hope is to use a loader to spread mulch, have someone dump it and use the loader to distribute it to the beds,

Mostly I mow. I think the 729 was a good selection. I looked up the 1023R, very nice, a little too large for the weekly mowing, but very nice.
