Thanks for sharing. I am curious if anyone has MSRP info for the tractor and accessories.

Do you think they are more expensive then the machines today?

When my mom and dad looked at a JD 400 in 1982 it was $3600. That was with the 60" belly mower.

    Thanks for the information, jd670.

What cost $3600 in 1982 would cost $8430.75 in 2012.

A current JD X7__ series is more complex in it's systems than an old 400 though (4wd etc) so not apples to apples!

I don't have the price lists for any of the attachments, my apologies.

Thanks for posting those pictures! In my opinion, that was definitely John Deere's finest era of lawn and garden tractors.

If it was possible to place the current generation Yanmar diesel engine on any of the older 300 or 400 series tractors, I'd gladly take that over the new 7 series. You would still have enough money left over to buy the new 7 iron deck and deluxe high back suspension seat .

This past summer at the 2 Cylinder Club's JD Eastern National Expo, I spotted this beautiful 212; complete with the original owner, receipt, and owner's manual. Looks like the 212 with 46" deck was $3727 out the door in 1984.

I agree. My goal is to restore a 1982 JD 400 someday. Why 1982, that was when mom and dad thought about buying me one for my 14th birthday.. Also the first time I saw a JD 400. Love instantly blossomed.

Nice pic's Papecat. I too collected JD and other brand sales brochures for about 10 years from the late '80s to late '90s. In fact, I'm pretty sure I have the one you posted pic's of - looks very familiar. I could never sell mine as there's too many drool stains all over them.
