john deere 455 lawn tractor wont start

bogged down and died while i was mowing now it wont start back up. it just turns over and ever so often it puffs black smoke.

I replaced it sir and bled the system and still nothing.. Is there a pto safety switch or anything like that?

Yes sir I hear both. And i put fresh diesel tank just to make sure.

The reason it bogged down and died is because I ran over a cable an it got wrapped around the blades and died.

So you may have deck/spindle problems, but now the engine will not start back? Humm...
Hopefully you disengaged all the PTO stuff. Seat, brake, reverse switch, or whatever is required to start it.

Have you checked all the fuses?

How did you finally solve this problem? I have kind of the same thing (ran over a t-shirt). I've pulled the deck but it barely turns over.
