TX,

The 790 is one of Deere's "advantage" series. While there is absolutely nothing wrong with this series, they do give up some creature comforts and hydraulic/electronic gizmos that add to rider comfort and productivity. For example, the 790 is a gear driven tractor. The 3x20 and 4x20 tractors are either power-reverser or hydrostat units. Most will agree that a PR or Hydro unit will handle loader duties much quicker than a gear tractor. There are other subtle nicities with the non-"advantage" tractors. I suggest a test drive is in order to sort them out. :)

The '01 4310 is actually 32 engine HP and 28 PTO HP. The 790 is 27 Engine HP and 24 @ the PTO.
Power and weightwise, the 4300 (and sucessor 4310) is quite similar to the new series 3320. There are quite a few similarities between the 3320 and 4310 as far as capabilities and how it's equipted. The older 4300 or 4310 are one of my favorite models. I've recommended that tractor to two friends who purchased them.

The 1998-2004 4xxx series was replaced by the newer 3xxx and 4xxx series machines. The older 4xxx were all Yanmar built, I think. The new 3xxx series have Yanmar engines, but are assembled by Deere. The new 4xxx series have Deere engines and are built by Deere in Georgia, if I recall. The new models don't correspond exactly with the older 4xxx series, but there are comparable models.
