I am considering the purchase of a 1999 4500 587 hrs 4wd pwr reverser R-4's 460 FEL w/bucket & Pallet forks. I don't see many posts relating to this model and also don't find many listed for sale through machinefinder.com. Any input on this model is appreciated. Dealer showed me some new 3x20 models that were similar in price w/warranty but I like the size of the 4500 better. Any advice +'s -'s on the 4500 to consider before the purchase - I have noticed some 4X10's with about double the hours for approx the same price.

Thanks in advance for the input.

Well I have a 4700 that I bought used.

it has 2600 hours on it.

I love it....It starts all the time..No matter what the temp is outside.

I have replaced a few worn parts here and there but I really love my 4700..

You won't be disappointed...Mine came from a rental company so it has seen some hard service and it runs like a top.

Expand your search to include 4500, 4600 and 4700. All JD tractors built on the same frame minor difference in HP and hydraulic power. I bought a JD 4600 after looking at machines in 30-35 HP range. I was worried that the machine would be too big, most days I wish it was bigger. I bought the 4600 used because it was priced right, 22,000 for tractor 400 hours, loader, tiller , york rake and 48 backhoe. The person selling was moving and to sell in a hurry. I have put close to 200 hours on and had no major problems. I would give 14-15k for a used JD 4500 . I added a WR Long grapple which has made the machine effective at land clearing.

Thanks for the input - I am looking at the 4X00, 4X10 & 4X20 there does not seem to be an abundance available in my area. I will keep looking - the 4500 I was looking at is in great shape but the front axle was not replaced under JD warranty program so I am concerned there may be a problem for me to fix or take a hit on if i sell the tractor - and the price just seems to be too high for a 1999 tractor- will just keep looking.
