In the process of installing a 12 volt outlet I've come across some issues I need help with, after getting some very good suggestions on how to hook up a high capacity outlet, I've decided to scale it back quite a bit, was going to go with a 30 amp circuit wired to the battery with a breaker etc, but since I could not find a rated outlet at any of the auto supply stores and have realized I really don't need that kind of power except for maybe the inverter I was thinking about, the stobe warning light only draws half an amp and the spot light is only 33 watts (I think that's around 2.5 amps), cell phone charger is very little.
I now just want to do it as simple as possible, I found this nifty little piggy back fuse thing that lets you get an extra circuit out of an existing one with out overloading the existing one. The problem is that I don't want to mess with any important circuits like the main or the hydrostatics even though this thing is supposed to be safe to add an extra 10 amp draw, the non essential circuits (tail lights & work lights) are not hot even on the line side unless they are switched on. the only space on the panel that has 12 volts on the line side when key is off is #2 and #4, the unused #2 space (it's a 30 amper) says trailer option, which I would like to find out more about, is there a plug in the harness in the back somewhere that I could use to power my outlet? The #4 space says "never used" and has only one terminal in the line socket, nothing in the load socket, would that be ok to use with my piggy back thing? The #12 says do not use or tranny will be disabled, all the other spaces have no terminals in them.
I did find a capped plug like socket on the back of the harness which does have a ground, but could not get power to it when I put a fuse in the trailer option space.
Any help will be appreciated, does anyone know how to get a full wire diagram for the 4310.
Thanks John,
Here are some pics to help.

This is the socket I found on the back, anyone know what's it's for?

Not sure about your fuse box, but have the same outlet out the back on a 4720, figured it was for a baler or trailer lite hook up. The last item looks like a dust cover for the outlet wiring.

Ya, I was hoping that the socket I found would be able to be powered when I put a fuse in the #2 space that does say "trailer option" and is rated at 30 amps, but no luck, it would be nice and easy since it already has a ground in it.
Does anyone have more info on this or know how to get the schematic.

I can't help you on the specifics JB, The schematics are in the technical manual that you can get from your dealer, mine was about $70.00 on CD.

This is why I recomend adding a new circuit-It takes all the guesswork out of it:D

Can't help you with specifics.. but in general.. I've installed a cig lighter outlet under the hood, or nea the das cowling on all my 12v tractors. I usually wire them right to the battery with inline fuse protection. primary use is for an inverter to use on the farm, or with 12v accy's like tire pumps.. etc... No need to go overboard or get too fancy... just use the correct length and gauge wire for your planned load.. and use a real cig lighter outlet.. not a 12v power outlet... reason is amp capacity. If you look closely.. most cig lighter assy's in cars are on a 25a accy circuit..... ( many times with the radio primary power and dash illumination ).. that lets you know that they are expecting up to 20a at least from the cig lighter.... etc.. )

I have 2 factory outlets in my truck, they both say 20 amp right on the covers, the best I could find was one that just says weather proof no rating at all, it's a surface mount, it only has 16 ga wire. How many amps can 16 ga wire handle? I know about ac but not dc, I'm assuming it is not the same.

Found out today that's for a back up alarm, there is a trailer option in the fuse panel that also requires a relay, then an optional 7 pin power socket that has to be all spiced into the existing harness in the back, it's only like $50.00, I guess it's for all the light functions on the back of the tractor.

If your 4310 is the same as mine, I have the trailer wire harness taped off under the seat. It took some digging to find it but it was there . If you don't already have the work lights on the back of tractor, there are two hook up wires on both sides you might be able to use. I found them on the right and left side by the base of the roll bar (in the same area as the back up alarm). And I highly recommend getting a copy of the service manual. It has every thing you would ever need to know,it is worth every penny.

Hook,
You say it's under the seat? I'll look tomorrow, makes sense since the trailer socket option is pretty cheap so it can't come with any big harness, I already have the work lights and there's a bunch of wires connected on each side at the bottom of the rops, I can't believe how much wiring there is on this tractor.
I haven't had any problems where I needed the manual yet, I usually do get the service manuals for my vehicles, so I'll probably end up getting one for the tractor.
BTW, I saw the picture of your ballast plate, I filled my ballast box with concrete but yours is a little heavier than mine, should be all the weight you need.

Yes it's under the seat its' just the raw end. For the trailer hook up they want you to buy the plug kit from JD. I wanted to see if anything in it would be heavy enough to run a sprayer. You might be able to find out more on jd's web site under the parts section they do have good schematics. If you haven't already.
