My experience with the 3520 which is 91.5 cu. in. is a bit less than .4 gal/hr at 200 hours. Half of those hours where at PTO rpms under load when chipping brush, and the rest are backhoe (2000 rpms) and loader work, pushing snow etc. averageing around 1500-1800 rpms. I would be pretty discouraged at 1 gallon per hour. 3520 specs are 2.6 gal/hour. I also have a foot throttle which lets me run lower rpms when doing most work, only kicking up the throttle before getting into a pile etc. I think that must contribute a lot to the better mileage.

You guys doing some "strenuous" work with it while its eating a gallon per hour? I know my simplicity legacy with the 3cyl diesel engine typically gets 10-15hrs with about 5gallons of fuel. Lots of times were either idling, using it for loader work etc so its not as hard as say lawn mowing full throttle in heavy grass, rotor tilling etc. Im sure it could eat a gallon an hour with that but ive never gotten it anywhere near that amount. I have an excel sheet figured out and usually its between .3-.4 per hour, we have 320hrs on it since new in October of 2006, little sucker gets used !

I have noticed on the 2305 (140hrs) that so long as I stay below 2100rpm (loader/BB) I get very reasonable fuel usage. I would guess 0.4-0.5 g/hr for me. When I put the MMM on and mow at 3K rpm, things change in a hurry. Even with diesel at $4.80/gal, I'm happy with it. As a bigger picture, I think it's a very reasonable price to pay for the amount and quality of work being done.

I just thought of something you guys might be missing. I don't know about all JD machines but on my old 4100 the hour meter read proportional to the rpm. So at full rated rpm of about 2800 a real hour showed on the hour meter as an hour. At 1400 rpm the clock runs half speed so an hour of running only registers as 1/2 hour. So when you run your machines at 2000 rpm and use the hour meter to figure fuel usage you really used less than you think. If you calculate you are using 1 gallon per hour but you were only running at 2000 rpm you really only used 0.7 gallons per hour. I've heard that JD is the only one that does there hour meters this way. Any experts know for sure?

I purchased my 2320 in July of 2009. I bought the tractor, JD 4 foot rotary mower and FEL from Sloan Implement in Mt. Horeb, Wisconsin. Our home is in LaCrosse, WI., which is in the south-west part of the state, near the Mississippi River.

My first mowing job was cutting two small fields, about three acres each. The problem was that the weeds were four to five feet high since the fields had not been cut in over two years. The place was full of deer beds.

I was amazed at the fuel efficiency of the 2320. I think I used under one gallon per hour for that project. I have a 1963 JD 4010 85 HP diesel row crop tractor and at the time, a MF 65 gas tractor and those units gulped a lot of fuel. The 2320 performed like a champ and just sipped the fuel. I have about 35 hours on the unit right now and it seems that the fuel economy is improving. This is one remarkable little tractor.

I have a little over 200 hours on my 3 year old 2320. The average fuel consumption is at 1.11 gallons per hour. Just bought more at $3.099 per gallon.

My 2320 also uses approx 1 gallon per hr.
