I have a high hour JD6410 and as you know the clutch is in oil.I know how to check a dry clutch by putting the tractor in high gear reving up engine and holding the brakes and let out on pedal if it kills engine it is good. Can you do the same w/wet clutch?

My father owned an Allis Chalmers WD-45 which had a wet clutch. He did rebuild the sleeved motor a few times but never the clutch.

I would say in a tractor if you don't abuse it the clutch will last for years.

Just my 2 cents.

On motorcycles --can't say about tractors-- a bad clutch will slip in similar circumstances, i.e., high load. Procedure to verify is to mike all friction discs, metal discs, and springs & compare with specs-it doesn't take much thickness reduction to make a big difference.... but those are generally pretty accessible on a bike by removing a side cover, after draining oil. What are you going to have to go through to pull it on a JD?
