| Re: Cost of 2320 50 Hr Service !!! Bill 1369,
I go to Padula Brothers as well for my JD needs. I am also approaching my 50 hr sevice on my 2520. I was going to post a similar question about dealer cost and my cost to do the fluid changes. You just saved me time, $700.00 plus?!!. Filter pack, 12 pack, and my free labor sounds much better! |

No ... my few tools (some of my father's from the WWII era) and my wife's tools were acquired ... along with other things (mainly SIG-Sauer, etc.) No longer "live there" ... have relocated a couple of counties over ... nobody "knows" me ... or "what I do." We'll leave it lay there ....
But thanks for asking/commenting!

Just called my local JD Dealer located in MA. Asked about how much 50 Hr service would be if I brought tractor to dealer and how much if they came to my house. I was calling them them because I am a "computer guy" and don't have much experience fooling around with these things. (I take my cars to the dealership for thier OilChanges.). Plus I use my tractor everyday and don't want to risk me taking it apart and not getting it back together because of lack of experience.
If I bring to dealer = $586.65
If they come to my house = $721.65
I was SHOCKED at these prices. (Or am I just being niave??)
I thought she was joking at first. Then I asked how much if I bought the parts to do it myself and she said "I don't know". I said "Thanks, but no thanks" and hung up phone with my mouth open.
Does this price sound nuts?? What is a Ballpark figure on how much the parts, fluids, etc will cost me to do it myself? I am being silly to being "scared" to do it myself?
Thanks for all the help!! |
I guess it really depends on what all they are doing. Are they replacing air filters primary and secondary when they may not need it at all?
Are they changing all the fluids?
I would want to see the list and pick n choose.
Also - a break out of parts vs. labor would be helpful.

| Re: Cost of 2320 50 Hr Service !!! You should ask the dealership what all is included but I would call the salesman to ask. Some dealerships do run two prices, one for their customers and the other for those who bought else where. There is also the possibility the person you spoke to made a mistake. You also have the option of another tractor shop. Ask around they are there, garages that work on all brands (do not mean car garage but heavy equipment ones). |

| Re: Cost of 2320 50 Hr Service !!! And where the service is done changes the price. For me the cheapest was to have them drive to me (undoubtedly when they had other calls in the area as well) so asking for a tow may increase the price significantly. Of course, if you've got a trailer this is the cheapest of them all except for buying the fluids kit and doing it yourself. |

D. | Under normal operating conditions - the 50hr service is simply an oil and filter change.
Changing the hydraulic filter, fuel filter and primary air would be more optional rather than necessary.
And changing "all" the fluids would be a way to "gouge" an unwary customer - IMO.
I don't think you can rationally explain a $600-700 cost for a 50hr service unless it's a 2hr transport each way to the dealership...

The 50 hour service is a major service where they swap out the break-in hydro fluid and even recommend changing the coolant. Next time the hydro fluid gets touched is 200hrs, IIRC. There's a big difference between the "at 50 hour" service and the routine "50 hour" service, so 100 and 150 hours is much less serious. |

| Re: Cost of 2320 50 Hr Service !!! I just received a winter schedule service add just today. I couldn't find what it all included. The bill always seems to be more than advertised.
I have always done my own to save money. I have found though the filters at my local Deere dealer are less expensive than my local NAPA store.
