Default Cost of 2320 50 Hr Service !!!

Hi All,

First time doing 50 Hr Service on my 2320...

Just called my local JD Dealer located in MA. Asked about how much 50 Hr service would be if I brought tractor to dealer and how much if they came to my house. I was calling them them because I am a "computer guy" and don't have much experience fooling around with these things. (I take my cars to the dealership for thier OilChanges.). Plus I use my tractor everyday and don't want to risk me taking it apart and not getting it back together because of lack of experience.

If I bring to dealer = $586.65
If they come to my house = $721.65

I was SHOCKED at these prices. (Or am I just being niave??)

I thought she was joking at first. Then I asked how much if I bought the parts to do it myself and she said "I don't know". I said "Thanks, but no thanks" and hung up phone with my mouth open.

Does this price sound nuts?? What is a Ballpark figure on how much the parts, fluids, etc will cost me to do it myself? I am being silly to being "scared" to do it myself?

Thanks for all the help!!

Even for Deere, that seems high. How far is the dealer from you? I would read the manual a couple of times and decide for yourself if you want to tackle it. I did not think doing it was that bad on my kuboota... a four beer project (waiting for the oil to drip out completely ). I went with OEM parts and the high dollar superduper oil and I think it was about $180 (in 2006 $$$) (fuel and air filter, too). Next time around, I'll NOT be buying OEM filters/oil.

That seems pretty ridiculous..
Ask them if it's those new gold plated oil filters

It cost me $220.00 in materials to do my 3320 myself. I wrote about it here http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/j...r-service.html

It was not hard at all, and took very little time. I would encourage you to give it a go. And take pictures for your friends on TBN.

That's nuts!!! The people running that place must have recently left Wall Street...

I used to do IT stuff where I worked -- everything from stringing cable to helping the latest employee format text using Word.

YOU CAN DO YOUR OWN MAINTAINANCE!!!!

I gave my neighbor a Christmas gift package for his 2520 that included all the filters that he would need for his 200 hr service interval - oil, primary air, hydraulic, fuel - $74.

(That's Alaska prices...) (((Is your dealership in the Hampton's by chance??)))

So, get a little greasy - turn a bolt and twist a filter. That's about all there is to it and your owner's manual lays out what needs to be addressed.

Best of luck.

Just got the invoice in the mail for the full 100 hr service on my 5425. It was around $520 Cdn. IIRC, the parts were around $270 which would have been all filters and Hyd. oil. Don't have it in front of me. They also set the wheel track wider for me and fixed a couple of minor items (cab door latch, couple of squeaks I couldn't pinpoint). Free pickup and delivery because the tractor was recalled so I took advantage of coordinating the 100 hr service at the same time. Saved me paying the float charges. From this point on though, I'll do the routine maint. myself.

Complete filter package from "The Green Store" on ebay is $71. Hydro fluid at Walmart-$18 for two gallons. You do the math.

...I'm sure it was included in there, you have to read between the lines to see it

Bill,

You are correct, that price is outrageous.

I changed my own engine oil and filter, hydro oil and filter(s) and fuel filter element on my 2520 last year and I'm sure it wasn't more than about $120 at the most. Just took a couple of hours on a Saturday morning and was done.

Hardest part was figuring out where to take the used oil for recycling (NAPA, by the way...).

You can do it.
