4wd on 4310 won't disengage

The 4wd will not disengage....any ideas as to what it might be?

Worn tires can sometimes cause this. 4WD is highly dependent upon an equal rolling radius.
Make sure the wheels are straight ahead and move slowly forward then let up on the throttle just as you pull the 4WD lever and see what happens.

Does the light go out and then feels like it is binding? or does the light stay on?

The light goes off and on when I push the button but the front tires still engage.

The manual says you need 12v at the MFWD soleniod to cause it to disengage.
Check fuse f5 to make sure it is not blown. Take out the mfwd switch and check the 562J red wire for 12 v. then check the 555 white out of the switch should have 12v in the disengaged position. If those check out, check the 555 white wire at the MFWD soleniod( it is located under the right side of the tractor near the rear wheel) for 12v. Also check the black 0101AG for ground. Something is causing you to not have 12v to unlock the MFWD soleniod.

The wires will have lettering on it telling you which circuit it is part of.

On my 3320 with HST the 4WD lever disengages much more easilly if you reverse direction for a few feet before moving it. It appears that this unloads some force on the 4WD system.

Yea, my 3720 behaves like DrainPondDesign. Sometimes just turning the front wheels while back up helps.

On the 4310 there is no lever only a switch on the right fender. There is no mechanical way to disengage.

OK....The mfwd selenoid has two unidentified black leads attached to it. One was just dangling.....so I plugged it in to the nearest harness with an open slot, which turns out to be a slot right next to the other unidentified black lead which is also coming from the selenoid. Is this correct? Do both black leads from the selenoid plug into the harness right next to each other?

The mfwd still doesn't disengage. The fuse couldn't be the problem because the rear pto works....correct?

I am not sure what you mean by black wires, the connectors are black but the wires should be colored. In spite of that it likely goes there. Double check please. You may have to slide the plastic cover back to see the insulation on the wires. Look in the owners manual to see a diagram for the fuse box. There may also be a diagram on the fuse box door and check the F5 fuse. I am not sure what all is powered by the F 5 fuse. If you cannot find the diagram in the manual, take a pair for needle nose pliers and pull each fuse one at a time and make sure all the fuses are good.

The problem is there is no power to engage the solenoid to unlock the MFWD. Somewhere you have lost 12v to the solenoid.
