John Deere 54Front Blade for 420/430 Tractor
Will a hydraulic front blade for JD 420/430 fit on a JD 400?

Check out this link...it doesn't seem so.
It says the 400 takes a 56" blade.

All the 54" blades where/are basically the same-but the quick-hitch on the tractor side are different. If you are looking at buying a used setup, then it's best to get model/serial numbers from them and check with a JD dealer.
You can also research it in JDParts if you have the know how and time.John Deere 4110HST

I don't know if a 54 blade will fit a JD 400 but I sure like my 54 blade on my JD 430. I enlarged the blade by making it higher and 64" wide. It works great for my application.
