I have a slightly larger tractor, but I've found that I can make a much more controlled mess with my box blade than I can with my loader. My land is old New England cow pasture pretty much so I've used it to find rocks near the surface, and remove them, to make small swales, and improve drainage from sheds, etc. to help fix up the mess the logging skidders did years ago in my woods when they logged there, and generally to just have a good time playing in the dirt. I have also found that with the blade adjusted right (riding on the rear blade) I can spread loam over rough areas of my yard, and just fill in the low spots without damaging the grass much at all.

BTW: the rough area on the right in the last picture was just a tiny part of the area that some wild boar dug up when they passed through. That clay was still pretty slick when I worked it too, and does look better now.

I used it once 2 years ago and it was the perfict tool for the job. Now it just sits there looking pretty.

I have a JD 2210 with turf tires.I have tackled some rough pastures with my homier boxblade and if I hit roots or clumpy grass then I come to a grinding halt. I have to back up and try again. IMO apart from some fairly simple jobs the 2210 is not really big enough.

Hi:

I have a 2305 and a 3720. I have a 72" landscape blade I've used on the 2305 and a 72" Box Blade I've used on the 3720. Both do things you just can't do with the loader.

I've used the Box blade for tearing up hard or grassy ground with the scarifiers then leveling it. I level my driveway with the Box Blade - Could I do this with the loader - Possible, but it wouldn't be pretty and would take forever. The BB levels stuff front to rear very quickly. The blade levels stuff side to side pretty quickly. They both have their use.

Build and maintain trails.
With scarifiers down, loosen soil so it can be moved with the loader.
Counter weight for FEL.

It's great for taking up soil "controllably". If I use the bucket, it's not long before the ground contour is a total jagged mess. The box blade keeps a smooth finish and is much easier on the machine. Plus, the scarifiers are terrific for pulling up rocks and busting tree roots which are no fun with the bucket.

I really like it for taking up topsoil. You just grade down until you start seeing clay/sand/till and you know you got as much as you're going to get. I just grade it into a long row and then come back and bucket it all into a pile. One could argue that a plow blade might work but there is a tremendous advantage of having the box blade behind the tractor as opposed to the plow blade out front. The box blade pulls the rear tires down into the dirt and gives you that much more traction.

I used to think about selling my box blade from time to time but it's a tool that can't be substituted when it comes to grading subsoil (well).

I have used my box blade for it's intended purpose several times. It takes some getting used to. I do have loaded tires and four suitcase weights. I found that more weight was better. The most common use I have for it is as ballast. Although it is a bit bigger in tight spaces the money I would have spent on a ballast box went about one third of the way toward the box blade. I also have a rake. They each have their niche. When I use one, I usually also use the other. I have it on a roll around pedestal and find that to be a fairly friendly way to store it and hook it up.

I would say my old 2210 would pull a 4 foot box blade for sure. It wouldn't move mountains, but it would do what 4-5 guys shoveling could never do.

My 2520 has a 5 foot box blade, and it works it hard, but it moves it. Today I peeled up solid dry CLAY with just the grader blade! I shaved off 1/2 inch each pass, and it left it looking like a paved road behind me, because the clay was cut so perfect with the grader blade, and the clay is so hard!
