HI,
My 2000 4400 has weak power steering at lower RPMs. Its ok at higher RPMs.
I've read that there has been a lot of power steering problems with this model of tractor. I was wondering if any of you have had any success in fixing this problem and could share some insights with me.
A second problem I am having is the 3PH will not maintain its level, but slowly lowers during use. even with the valve fully closed it will still lower. Also upon reaching it's full lift, the engine begins to work really hard until i raise the FEL or lower the 3PH. I recently cleaned the pressure relief valve which improved the power of my FEL. This seems to be when the engine laboring began, but my memory isn't clear on that. It also makes some buzzing squealing sounds sometimes.
I Checked the rockshaft control valve filter to find that it was blown out. I ordered a replacement only to find that the whole unit has been upgraded to a canister type filter that requires new hydraulic lines. I have been running it without this filter until I can get the new parts. I am thinking that I may need to get a new RCV as well.
To clarify a little, I got the tractor used with 650 hours on it in june 2009. I changed the fluids and filters at that point. In using the tractor over the last year I have noticed that the Power steering was weak and have had problems lifting heavy loads (Bucket heaping full of sand) with the FEL. As I don't always have time to work on it I have been slowly troubleshooting these problems since I got it. One thing I did to troubleshoot these problems was check the RCV filter. I found that it was blown out. So it being plugged was not the problem. I checked the RCV and found no debris inside. I recently found this website and have learned a lot about my tractor since. But still no definite responses to the power steering problem or the 3PH problem. I was able to resolve the loader problem by cleaning the PRV, which seems to have worsened the problems that I mentioned about the 3PH. Before I cleaned the pressure relief valve the 3PH would raise to its highest point normally, sometimes with a little squeal at the end. Now when it raises it reaches the top and then bogs the engine down. It continues to have the slowly lowering problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
