Hi all,
I have a 2000 John Deere 4400. I went to change the range from B to C and the shaft broke right where it goes into the case. I took the seat off to see how I could get to it. It looks like if I pull the rockshaft / top cover off, will I be able to get to the shaft that changes the ranges? I'm not sure whats under the cover. I had to order a manual from john deere and it will not be here for a week or so. Is there any where I can down load a manual or buy a down load of one? Has anyone pulled this off? Thanks for any help yall can give me.

Welcome to TBN:D

Sorry to hear about this, it happens seldomly mainly due to lack of lubrication in that area. The aluminum case and the steel shaft don't play well with each other.

Technical manuals are not available for download, but the repair was detailed very on a 4300 well in this thread: JD4300 -- Catastrophic Failure of the Shift Shaft - TractorByNet.com

Thank you for all the info. The thread you sent me was the same thing that happened to my tractor.

Thanks Passnbyu
