2320 mower height selection knob

question for any 2320 owners out there.... I have the independent lift option on my tractor. Whenever I try to set the mower deck height using the deck knob, I find that on one setting the deck is either too high and If I change it to another setting it is too low. What gives with this setup? Am i doing something wrong or is this just the nature of the beast. One of my buddies has a brand new 2320 tractor and it is doing the same thing. What can we do to remedy this problem. I should be able to have finer adjustments than this. Has anybody figured out how to fix this problem?

On ours the highest notch off lock up is set at 3 1/2 the next notch is a little over 3 inches and then about 1/4 increments from there. My lift is controlled by the 3 point hitch lever which also allows some infinite settings, but do not know with your independant lift.

Hate to say this ,doesn't matter if indp lift or regular lift... the control knob is what sets the height.. 2305 same way When I had the 425 great setup... could adjust height at 1/4" up to around 4-5" (cannot remember ,to many yrs ago.)// 2210 and 2305 most height I can get is 3 1/2" in the locked post...Just checking mine today..How are to suppose to mow your grass at 3 1/2" and still lift your deck???????????? I never have been happy with adj wheel on the JD2305... Wondering if the adj wheel on 425 or 445 or the 585 would work on the Utility tractors..

the nob is junk i have same prob with my 2320 i mow 1 click down from lock.the prob is the cam notches arnt made right mite fix mine one day.

you say the cam notches are made right what would one have to do to fix it?

need to take cam off add 1/2 the drop on the stops exept for the top lock and the instal setting .i would take cam off weld or bolt appox 1/4 inch to each drop so it dosnt go down as far on each setting.

Have you ever had the cam off? And is it a big job to remove it? I still don't understand how this cam stops the deck from coming down.

The assembly is not hard to remove, but it is a pain in the butt! The knob on mine disconnected from the it's shaft, so I had to put it all back together last year. The cam block (#5 in the pic above) is what determines the cutting height as it physically stops the lift arms from dropping further down (the far right side is the raised lock position). This is why you need the deck raised to adjust the knob. As you can see in the pic, adding some material to a couple of the tabs will give you smaller increments to adjust with.

Now getting to the cam block means you have to remove the bracket (#7), and the 4 bolts that hold it in. I had trouble getting to them through the right lift arm. Maybe I didn't have the correct tools, or didn't raise the machine up high enough to have sufficient room to work in, but it wasn't fun. You'll also have to dis/reconnect the arm (#23) that connects to the rockshaft arm. Or maybe not - I don't know how the indy lift works...

no i havent had it off. it is a big job, item5 the steps that is what determins cutting height each one of thous steps should be higher so it dosent drop as much at each click, right now you realy only have 2 mower height adjustments.

Huh ive had my 2320 for a little over 2 years and take the deck on and off all the time and never had any problems. i usually have my knob set between the middle and high settings and works just fine. I do run my guide wheels about an inch lower than the deck itself and its good cut and dont "dig" in anywere and i have a really uneven yard. if i rember right ther is an adjustable arm that makes contact with that cam. if i am right (not sure) maybee that could be adjusted to get the range you are looking for. ill have to go out and check mine.
