I traded in a Rhino TW 96 simi-mount and $150 for it. The Rhino was 13 years old but barn kept and in good shape. The Rhino was a OUTSTANDING mower but for my situation the MX 6 is now the mower for me. I'm severly disabled and my dad has had a stroke and my mom is 75 and we are trying to hang on and keep the farm up and decent looking. I figure I can attach and take off the MX 6 all by myself but with the TW 96 my mom had to wrestle with the catagory 4 PTO and hook up the hydro hoses. Neither thing I can do. I can however do the MX 6. MX has a cat. 3 PTO shaft that is much easier for me to manage. Dealer allowed me 2500 for my Rhino. I'm not clearing any brush/trees so the durablity of the mower shouldn't come into play. I knew the mower was more fragile than its contemperarys before I got it. The Bush Hog 326 is still the mower I dream about at night:eek:.....<sigh>. Cat.5 PTO lets that one out of consideration. I know I could change the PTO shaft but didn't want to do that. I was mostly wanting a nice looking cut with the ability to tackle a downed limb on my trails I mow here on our daylilly farm.

I actually was only going to trade mowers but while the Kubota dealer was looking at my Rhino I asked him how would he trade a new L5040 to my L4200. It was more reasonable than I thought so I did that also! Just never pays to stop by a tractor dealer..........

Ken Sweet is just 40 miles north of me and I'm looking for a 3 point disk so I'll buzz up his way soon and have a look see.

Spudland Dave,

I was reviewing this thread and read again what you posted about a 3point Anvil...it reminds me of that Blue Collar Comedian.. "now that there's funny...I don't care who you are"....hilarious. (and true, the best comedy always is:)

well i got 1 of them can tear up anything brothers.about 15yrs ago i bought a brand new 10ft mowhawk shredder.an after 10hrs or less use it burned the seals on main gear box, thus burning up the gearbox.had war where i bought it from told dealer he could do 1 of 2 things.1 give me my money back an get that peice of junk.2.he could replace all 3 gear boxes at no cost to me.he said no it was your falt the gearbox blew out.he goes you didnt check oil level,i goes new equipment i dont check nothing it better be ready to work.well another dealer can an drained the gear boxes.round an round an he finally fixed it.an told the driver you make sure he knows theyve all been replaced.well it only shredded 4yrs an blew up completely.10yrs later i had a shop look at it,an they said it would cost $3000 to fix it.an i told them no.been running a bushogg for 10yrs now an no probs.but bottomline is dont put equipment down till it really swarms on you,an then tell what happened to it.

Sorry to hear about that shaft Rabcon. Does your gearbox say Made in Spain or Made in China on it? There seems to be issues with the Spainish grearboxes. My MX 6 has a Chinese gearbox on it like almost every other mower in america.

I must be lucky. My MX5 mows concrete, metal, and various other things. Only problem I've had is the shear bolt. I even have tore a hole in the side from mowing something. All this damage while doing some commercial work in unknown fields. I'd buy another in a heart beat!!!

I own an MX-8. What a sweet mower. I have the hydraulic tailheight adjust and the hydraulic swing on mine. Got it for $3,000 used-looks like a brand new mower. Couldn't be happier.

Dumb question: Why doesn't the slip clutch slip when these nice folks are striking immovable objects and breaking shafts???

I've hit some real nasty rocks with mine and it just merrily chugs along. So far it's my best/favorite attachment. Now I'm gettin "a-scared" about these gearboxes breaking.
