I am using a JD 40W? 1950's model and it started sputtering like it was starved for fuel and quit running. It has spark and has fuel going to carburetor. I can spray carb cleaner in the bottom air intake and it will start for a few seconds. My thought is the carb is clogged somewhere in between. What is involved in disassembling and cleaning the carb? Can it be done w/out a carb rebuild kit or will the gaskets not be reusable? Thanks

Only 2 bolts holds it on, no big deal to remove. You can make the paper gaskets if you mess up the old ones. Take it off and clean it and you should be good to go. Ken Sweet
