My 855 has a Yanmar 3tn75rj.Am having trouble finding an exact replacement and JD wants 5K. What else will fit fairly easily? Thanks for your help.Jeff:confused:

You might already know; the 3TN75RJ was also used in the F1145 commercial mower.
Is your current engine re-buildable? Engine kits are readily available.

Dont see why it wouldn't fit. That's the engine used in the 955 which pretty much shares all the dimensions of the 855 (in regards to the engine compartment). I have a 3TNE88 in my 955 and it fits like a glove.

BTW... does your 855 have the fuel tank in front of the radiator? Or is it between the engine and operator's station?

The 3TN84 from a 955 should be close, although it's not identical. (Water pump, cooling fan, oil cooler, etc). It's also indirect injection as opposed to the direct injection of the 3TN75.
Mechanos brought up the fuel tank location. This may be a concern, you'll have to do more re-plumbing/fabrication if your 855 is an earlier model with the fuel tank in front of the radiator. All 955's had the tank between the operators station and engine.

I've never heard of the 3TNE88.

Let us know how it works out.

The 3TN84 in the 955 is direct injection. The 3TNE88 was used in the 4400 and 4410.

Not sure what my 3TNE88 came out of.... it's a non-JD engine. According to it's data plate, it is rated at 37hp. It was in the tractor when I bought it.

JD has an engine for sale? Even when I rebuilt my last 955 engine 5 y
ago, it was out of production, and the only units available were stashed
in some dealer's warehouse. (I did find one for sale for $5400 BTW.)

The neat thing about the x55s is there is no foot clutch, so the bellhousing
does not bolt up to the HST or gearbox. You have a simple drive shaft
with rubber coupling, and the engine sits on top of a frame. Engine
swaps should be much easier than on other tractors.

Of course, almost all blown engines are rebuildable.
