Dmay,

Excellent job...

I wanted to ask you. How did the plastic impeller hold up this past winter? Anything major stand out or is it still rock solid.. I see by your pictures you have your blower set up pretty high off the ground. Is that for the stone in your driveway?

Thanks :D

I have had no problems to report after my first year of heavy use. I have ~9000 sq ft of gravel that I clear so I keep the snowblower shoes one below the highest/lowest position (depending on your perspective). This helped to avoid sending gravel through the impeller and chute.

Have the impellers been plastic for a while now or is this something new?

After seeing what the occasional rock does to my old single stage thower it just seems odd to go to plastic.

I believe the impellers have been plastic since JD came out with the 54" snowblower. The 47" still has the steel impeller. From what i've read if you damage the plastic one all you have to do is order a steel one from a 47" snowblower.

RaisedonDeere wouldn't the impeller on the 54" be longer to make it a 54" ?

That is the auger...the impeller or fan that they are speaking is in the rear and what "blows" the snow out of the chute.

Smalltown,

As Kennyd stated the item you are talking about is the spiral auger. That is almost 54" inches in length. That auger funnels and pulls the snow into the item we are talking about which is the impeller which thrusts the snow out the chute.
