John deere 2320 starting
I was just operating a 2320 yesterday. The machine ran great however when starting, it jars the whole machine once it starts and then it stops once at idle. This isn't a very big concern however it doesn't seem like it should do this. Does anyone know why it's doing this or have the same problem?

I think what your describing is normal for diesels. They have a lot of compression, and torque.

Yes, but we have a slightly larger Kubota tractor and it doesn't seem to do this

Mine also has a brief shaking when it starts. I think it's a side effect of the engine mounts. They are probably tuned for the operating range and allow more movement at lower RPM. I'm pretty happy with the low vibration at operating speed.

Re: John deere 2320 starting
Hiya,
Nothing out of the ordinary. Should try the older Cummins B and C engines, they make trucks rock and roll when they start and stop.
It all has to do with rotating mass of the crankshaft and other rotating components. The less mass in motion will change velocity quicker when the engine is started and stopped. What your feeling is this lighter mass running up against the high compression ratio and stopping quickly, that imparts a counter reaction on the block which is what you feel.
