I have a leaky seal on my left rear axle of my John Deere 4300, and am having problems removing the left rear axle.
I have removed the 8 housing bolts and spring pin holding the locking rear differential. The housing comes off about 1/3 of an inch, and then stops. It is hitting on something and I can't figure it out. Can someone help me?

Like this (photo)?

You have to remove the brake bellcranks (levers).

Thx, Matt. I know my 4300 rebuild thread is long (559 posts!), but the
search utility is excellent for finding the different areas of the rebuild. That
way, one does not have to wade thru the whole thing.

I sold my 4300 early this summer ($15,800) and expect that the new
owner will have years of reliable service from this unit.
