Re posting a question on the 270 backhoe . I had read they would be released in the fall so I am wondering if anyone was able to buy one as yet and how is it's performance?

Seems as advertised by JD, you no longer need to remove the lifting brackets for the MMM with this unit and so it would be the perfect fit for my 2720.

I have not heard of them being officially for sale yet...just a lot of talk and a quick mention in the brochure.

I've been following developments on this product and made the following post in August.

"Heard an update on the JD 270 hoe from a friend this morning saying its release is 'going to be delayed again'. Seems that JD hasn't gotten everything working the way they want it and are taking the time to resolve the problems before it goes into full-scale production. The 46 hoes were almost completely depleted and JD has evidently re-started production of them, so 46s are again available. Of course, this likely means that, once JD is finished with the 270 and has it the way they'd like, we're going to have to wait until all the new 46s are sold before the 270 will be available for sale."

While I've continued to keep my ear to the ground and ask questions of friends, dealers, and people I know on the inside, I've heard nothing new since that time.

Thanks for the reply. I am going to wait on this one as I can't see having to take apart the MMM brackets to fit a 46. I also understand that the 270 will cut 7 feet. another plus!!

Thanks again

You're welcome! And I agree with you. The 270 digs deeper and doesn't require the removal of the mower and 3 pth arms, though I haven't been able to imagine how the latter is achieved without conflicting with something. Perhaps that's why this release is taking so long :D

Funny thing is, When I first started looking to up grade, I looked at the JD site and saw a short vedio with a lady backing up to a backhoe , picking it up and driving off. This was a selling point, so I got the biggest of the small tractors, 2720 and figured I would be set from there. My dealer never mentioned anything about what was involved with attatching a backhoe. Thanks to this site I learned the hard way. Lessons learned.

PS . she never left the seat except to connect the hoses.

I will be buying a 270 BH for sure. Hope it attaches via quick hitch.

I wish I'd seen that video. Nevertheless, the normal way to connect a hoe is to back up tje tracor to the hoe, get off to connect the hydraulic lines, then remount to use the hoe's hydraulics to maneuver the hoe onto its mounting pins or stems. Usually, you have to dismount one more time to insert pins on each side to secure the hoe to the tractor.

Well, I'm sorry to say that a backhoe won't connect via a quick hitch. A backhoe puts a lot of strain on a machine, and except for the bigger machines, those that connected to the 3pt hitch often broke things or tore them apart. You want a hoe to connect to the frame of the machine itself because of the large forces that are applied as we tug at stumps and large boulders to loosen them. On the bigger machines, the 3 pt hitches are heavier duty and a hoe's forces can better be handled.

In reality, I would hope the 270 uses some new brackets on the 2000 series tractors that leverage the existing mounting holes in the heavy frame inside the rear tires. (I actually would not expect a quick hitch enabled 270, except for moving it around). That said however, I owned an old Bradley back hoe 3ph mounted on a Ford 1710 tractor which dug up everything I could throw at it, and it worked well. So, a 3 ph mount (not quick hitch) for a 2000 series CUT does make sense. S.
