John Deere 2210
Hi All,

I've got a John Deere 2210 and I've got a (barely) used 210 loader that I'm considering purchasing from a dealer up in New York. I would have to get it delivered via freight carrier.

It's missing the subframe (mounting brackets) and hood guard, but it looks like I can get those from greenfarmparts.com:
JOHN DEERE FRAME AW31263
JOHN DEERE FRAME AW31264
John Deere Hood Guard Kit BW15217

When I add up the cost of freight, loader, subframe, and hood guard, I'm at about $2600. The best price I've been able to find on a new, 200CX loader, mounted on the tractor, is $3200. I've checked on Koyker, Rhino, Bush Hog, and Woods loaders, and all of them are the same or more.

If I take the loader to a dealer for mounting, I would pay about $250. I'm thinking about getting this 210 loader and trying to mount it myself. I looked over the instructions in the manual and it doesn't seem to difficulty--you basically have to bolt the subframe on, and torque it to the appropriate tightness. Here's the manual (scroll down to "Recommended Set Up/Assembly Sequence" and read that and the following several sections for the installation instructions):
http://manuals.deere.com/omview/OMW49370_19/?tM=FR

I don't see anything about adding hydraulic fluid. Do I need to add extra fluid since the loader is going to hold a certain amount of fluid in the lines and cylinders? It runs off the same oil reservoir as the hydrostatic transmission, right?

So I've got to decide if:

1) If it's worth saving $600 to mount it myself, and get the older 210 loader (instead of the 200CX loader, which is I guess a better loader?)
2) If I'm being unrealistic thinking I can mount it myself. It just doesn't seem that it should be that difficulty, especially considering it's a quick-detach loader.

I'm no diesel engine mechanic, but I'm not afraid of a wrench, either.

Oh, the attached pictures in my previous post are of the loader I'm considering.

Are you going to be taking it on and off a lot? If so I know at least on the newer models the 200CX is super simple to take on and off. I would see it as worth it for that perspective but relatively the same otherwise.

The 210 loader is a quick attach loader much like the 200CX loader. I haven't been able to find any videos demonstrating exactly how it comes on and off, but from the manual it sounds very similar to the way the 200CX loader comes on and off.

Anybody out there with a video of attaching/detaching the 210 loader? I've continued to search for this and haven't been able to find a video.

Without looking at specs, it seems to me that the 200CX has a higher breakout force than the 210 loader... When I got my 2210 in 2005 they were just coming out with the 200CX and the dealer highly recommended I wait and get the 200CX instead of putting a 210 on it. I did and was very happy with the 200CX (not saying I wouldn't have enjoyed the 210!). I know of a few 210 loaders around and I've got to say that one looks to be in incredible shape  If you're not set on the 210, you might look over specs of the 200CX just to make sure you're not missing out on some better performance for just a little bit more money. I could be wrong - I haven't checked them over for years, but thought I'd mention it.

Try as I might I have not been able to find performance numbers for the 200CX on a 2210. Are there published specs for that tractor/loader combo? I've seen specs for the 200CX on other tractors, but I understand that performance will vary across tractors. You can put the 200CX on a 2720 but I doubt I'm going to get the same performance on my 2210 as a 2720 would. The 2720 has (I'm guessing) a much beefier hydraulic system.

It takes less than 5 minutes on or off with the 210 loader on level ground. If your machine has the SCV connections the only thing you would need to add is the 2 mounting brackets on either side of the tractor and the loops that keep the hyd hoses away from the front tire. should take less than an hour to install and torque both brackets.

I found the following in another thread - http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/john-deere-buying-pricing/71180-2305-vs-05-2210-used.html - I can't get to the PDF that the thread refers to so I have to take the specs as they are and assume they are accurate. It looks like the 200CX has some better numbers, but the question is obviously, is it worth it to you to spend the extra $$!

The more I read the more uncertain I am about the actual capabilities here. JDFANATIC said "Also, the 200CX on the 2305 does NOT have increased lifting capacities [over the 210 loader on the 2210]." That's in the thread you linked to that has those specs.

JDFANATIC also stated this in a different thread:

When the 2210/210 first came out, many of us suspected the combo could lift more than rated. A friend and fellow poster measured the following using 50 lb boxes of welding rod:

750 lbs to max 68" lift height
800 lbs to 61"
850 lbs to 51"
900 lbs to 45"
950 lbs to 38"

At which point he was out of welding rod and had his 220 lb buddy get in the bucket and was able to lift the combined 1170 lbs to 16"

Of course, the 200CX may be equally "under-rated," so I don't know what to believe! :)
