When I engage the PTO on my 955, I can hear the engine labor a little bit and the PTO shaft tries to turn but just can't quite get going. I've done a bunch of diagnostics and I believe the problem lies in a couple of seals on the PTO shaft. If those seals are worn, it would allow the hydraulic pressure that builds to release the inertia brake to bleed off cause the brake to drag. To replace these seals, I'd have to remove the transaxle from the tractor and partially disassemble it to remove the PTO shaft. Before I go to all that effort, I would to verify that the brake is the problem.

So, I would like to disable the PTO brake to see if that cures the problem. My first thought is to remove the two springs that apply the braking pressure to the piston in the brake assembly and leave the piston, brake discs and separator discs in place.

Has anyone else disabled the interia brake the PTO of an x55 seires tractor? How did you do it?
