New to me 850, 1979, brakes were not working at all, pulled brake cover and it is full of oil and grease, I ordered new seals from the JD store, my problem is I am having trouble getting the brake drum to come off, I naturally took the outside nut off, is there anything else that holds the drum on, I have been prying on it a little but need to know if there is anything else before i get to ruff on this, my adjusters were also frozen to the housing but I got that loose and working, bout had heart failure when the parts man quoted me a price on the shoes, think I will order some after market, also does that seal just tap in from the outside, anu help appreciated

Might try the Yanmar forum (its a green Yanmar tractor) I believe that tractor was a YM2500 there are places besides JD to buy parts. I cant swear they are exactly alike but it never hurts to ask. ;) Fact try Hoye.com for a parts breakdown diagram on the YM2500.

Here is a quote from another thread (different forum)

Here is what is involved to get to seal.
Remove ROPS (if installed)
Remove wheel and tire.
Remove fender.Remove brake drum and shoes.
Unbolt hydraulic high pressure line under seat.
Drain hydraulic oil.
Remove entire Final drive assembly.
Remove final drive gear and pinion gear.
Oh baby I finally got to the seal !!!
