Ran fine and mowed one day, next day, started up fine but when clutch was released to go forward or backward, the engine dies. Tried rocking it, tried releasing clutch a bit...and would go forward or backward a tad, then die. Put clutch back in and it will recover. What's up? Please help.

Sounds like the safety switch on the seat may need to be adjusted. Good luck.

Knowing which JD mower you have may help with more suggestions.

x2. I'm curious as to which JD riding mower has a clutch. I'm thinkin' she means brake pedal, which - to me - suggests brake interlock switch.
