Chipped off the slag and shot some primer on it to slow down the rust...

Mounted her back up (turns out the plow point peice I used as a fish plate was so thick I couldn't put the washer back on. No problem, there wasn't one on originally, I just added one to tighten it up.)...

Headed out to dig up a big rock to see if it would hold. My wife is 5'3 for comparison and the rock is round...

Turns out it's pretty strong. Will probably get me through until I can afford a new one. Thanks EVERYONE for all your help. Even buickanddeere who gave me the idea for using the grill for preheat. See everybody, we can all get along and share ideas peacefully. Thanks again and talk to you guys soon!

For fun, here was my jig for holding the pieces in place while I made the first welds on this side. Along with my fancy cast steel preheat oven! I ended up angle grinding both sides for a good fillet weld then welded two fish plates on. One on each side. Hopefully this helps someone who has a similar problem. Only cost me $5 in rod and $10 in propane.

Looks pretty good. Was that a 7018 you used? Did you weld it with AC?

Yup 7018 AC. Had 1/2 pound left over from repairing cracks in the stick and holes in the nucket. I just threw them in the back of the grille to heat them up and drive out the moisture before using them.

Wow! You just did the exact same thing that you're criticizing him for.
