john deere 2640 rattle

was using differential lock on incline,when i released heard pop or crack sound,then rattle when clutch released. any ideas?

Does the dif-lock still work?

It always engaged a little stiff, now no resistance at all. I parked it in shop. I didn't want to do more damage! Took cab off, wheels off and the dif-lock looks fine.
