Deere 5410 Starter, Is it a 10 tooth or 11 tooth Starter

I have a Deere 5410 with a weak starter and I need to replace it. It still works but it cranks very slow, draws lots of current and makes for hard starting. I don't want to remove from tractor until I get the new starter. Here are my questions.

For this tractor they sell both an 11 tooth and a 10 tooth starter. I do not know how many teeth are on my starter. Does it make any difference? It seems an 11 tooth starter would turn engine over faster. Would both starter engage with flywheel correctly?

Unless I overlooked it JD only offers one flywheel starter ring for a 5410 so both number count starter gears utilize same ring.

I have now taken starter off tractor and it is an 11 tooth starter. Still not sure if a 10 tooth starter would also work but I ordered a new starter and it should be 11 tooth.
I'm disappointed that the starter went bad. The fuel filter and water separator bowl is right above the starter. It looks like over the years fuel has leaked down onto the starter. Maybe the reason the starter failed.

My 5410 starter has failed and I have a loader attached, I have unbolted starter but can not remove it, not enough room.
Looking for advise!
What about the black cup on end of starter, can i remove it to give more room?
will I have to remove the loader?

Sorry it has taken me so long to read your post... I had same issue. The loader mounting bracket is in the way... I had to remove that bracket to get starter out.

No Problem, I got er done! What a pain.
But, you can take it off without removing the loader bracket.
You have to remove the black plastic cap on end of starter and it does sort of screw off, and I had to loosen the hyd line to pump to give room. ( along with taking off filter, fuel lines, and lots of other stuff)
but tractor would not start and loader is hard to remove on dead tractor.
Now for good advise, after I replaced starter, ( the solenoid was bad, due to low voltage) what caused the solenoid to go bad was the relay switch behind dash, so before you go changing all, check the voltage to the (switch wire) on solenoid mine only had about 4 volts. Live and learn. !!

I not much mechanic, so I will explain what starter repair shop told me.
The little wire from switch to solenoid only has voltage when attempting to start. It will start on low voltage, but this will shorten the life of the starter and/or solenoid. ( safety switches, loose connections etc all contribute to this)
Put a volt meter on this and attempt to start and see what it throws when switch is activated. I think he said 9 plus volts is acceptable. but below that will shorten life, someone on here can correct me if I am wrong.
Starter shop, did not want to repair, and have me show back up in 6 months thinking they did bad work due to a low voltage problem. would it not be great if all repair shops took time to educate there customers !!!!!!!!! thanks precise rebuilders in Lexington tn!
Of course the main lug to starter should always have 12 plus volts on it from battery.
