In my 4210 manual it states that blue and white smoke is
normal upon startup.
I don't see this after a few minutes but I do notice that
this little bugger stinks if you get exhaust in your face
even later on.
My Kubota just smells like stinky diesel when you get it
in your face, especially at startup, the JD smells like
something else.
I know none of you make a point to take odor samples but
do your 4x10 tractors exhale something other than a
"normal" diesel smell?
What is the blue smoke from? For Deere to mention it in the
operator's manual must be design. Oil near valve guides? Or
maybe a wide range in metal expansion somewhere that seals
up when warm?
Manual also mentions it will be louder at startup. I can see
that from difference in combustion efficiency with a warm
versus cold engine.
Someone somewhere on TBN there was a discussion on diesel
fuel additives, some of which lower noise levels. Any ideas?
Have any of you found different brands of diesel smelling
differently or the tractor being louder/quieter?
thanks for any advice

The above doesn't really matter, my dog begins to stink
soon after a bath and I still like her too!
