    410 B John Deere Backhoe

Default I ran out of Diesel in my John Deere 410b backhoe.

I ran out of diesel in my John Deere 410 b backhoe. I opened the fuel lines before and after the fuel pump and left diesel run out. Backhoe runs on Starting fluid but does not seem to get the diesel fuel pumped to where it needs to go. Is there another place I need to open fuel lines? I don't know a lot about what I'm doing.

Operator's manuals from 1-800-522-7448. Do not spray ether into a Dubuque diesel. The next cold weather starting attempt maynot be successful where it used to be.

After bleeding air out of filter I recommend loosening the fuel supply line at inj pump then use lift pump to purge air out of line to inj pump. If engine still won't start then loosen inj lines at injectors and turn engine over until air free fuel squirts out then tighten lines one at a time while cranking engine. Be CAREFUL so as to not get fingers close to spraying diesel. I agree only use starting fluid as a very last resort on only use VERY SPARINGLY.

One thing you can do it put a primer bulb inline, ideally after your filer. Use that to get you going, once running remove it and hopefully you will be good to go.

Well I'm going repeat alot of what others have said, So fill tank with new fuel, Fill the fuel filter with fuel also and fit back onto the assembly. Fit a one way valve such as a (Vapormatic Part No:- VPD4401) to the supply line from tank before the filter. This helps the fuel stay up. Open the return line/leak off hose from the D-Injection pump and pump up the hand pump until fuel and air bubbles come out of the valve directly on top of the pump. They when air is all out, Open each injector pipe at injector and rotate engine until each pipe realises all air bubbles. Air in a JD diesel pump can be a **** situation to be as they seem to be a hard system to get back up running after a fuel system break down or service. There can be other issues related to the problem also. Such as a blocked filter or pipe, ie (remove and clean out thorughly). A stuck meter rod inside the Inj-pump or back fuel. Also if your battery is now low on power from many starts it can be a slow rotatary engine speed thats failing the first restart. The most common RPM's at starting should be 120-140rpm . If the starter isn't achieving this then you may not be pump diesel through the Inj-pump. Have fun after wards and don't get stressed to much, get a good mate over to help you as it eases off the pressure for one man and his tractor.
