JD 3020 Propane
I recently purchased a 64 3020 propane. I have only put about 30 hours on it but I am planning on doing a complete fluid change this weekend so I have a good baseline of when everything was changed and to get a better understanding of where everything is. I busted a remote hydraulic line under the foot plate and have the new one to replace it. Figured since my oil level is already low, now is a good time to replace everything more for peace of mind and while I have the time to do it.

I have a 800 or so page manual at home but I was going to stop on my way home to purchase the fluids. Going home is quite the drive so trying to save a hour and half trip to the farm supply.

I am not sure which engine oil to use or hydraulic oil to use? 15w40 engine oil? Is the diesel oil fine for the LP engine? I would assume that it is.

Looks like 8 gallons of 303 hydraulic fluid. I think they sell these for about $30/ 5 gallon. Any reason why I should use the JD vs generic stuff that is sold at the farm store?

Any other recommendations while I am doing the fluid/filter service?

I use JD Hy-gard in my 4255 but 303 spec oil is fine for your 3020.I'd suggest to also change hyd filter & check/clean sump screen.

I thought 303 was bad stuff?

303(spec J20A) was the correct spec for early JD tractors built from '61-'72. Later model JD tractors need oil that meets Hy-Gard spec's(J20C).
