I have a first year 3038, so 6-7 years old, about 580 hours of light use, The ignition switch collar is loose, key is hard to turn and I have to push in hard to get it to turn. I am afraid I might break off the key in it.

Is there a repair for this or replace it with a new factory unit? or an aftermarket switch?

New ignition switch.. $45 part LVU29433

Pic of what you have that is loose would maybe help with better solution.

Do you keep the JD key on a heavy keychain?

I have never seen an ignition switch that would not fail from an excess number of keys hanging on the switch.

This pic shows the MAXIMUM amount of weight that I will put on a JD switch,,,

This tractor has 3X the number of hours as the OP stated.
