I\'ve got $35,000 to spend......

Which JD machines should I look at?

I'm building a small road, digging about 1000 feet of electrical trench and moving lots of top soil in fairly rocky Vermont soils. The land is relatively flat. Obviously I will need a loader and backhoe.

Thanks for any input.

Well, if you have that much to spend I would recommend the 110TLB. If you need a 3PH, the hoe detaches from the tractor. It has a hydro tranny so loader work will be a breeze. Plus, they just look cool! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif lol

I looked at and tested a 110 TLB last Friday.....loved it....super nice machine. I will likely end up with one /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif I was just wondering if there was any other CUTs I might be missing that is close in ability for less $$. I should have said that in my original post.

BTW: 35K is max.

Re: I\'ve got $35,000 to spend......

Jim,

I got a 4710 hydro, 460 loader, 72" HD bucket & 48 backhoe with an 18" bucket for less than your budget amount. I am very happy with the machine. The area I am in is hilly, rocky clay. The backhoe has worked great in those conditions.
I am not sure if this setup is still available. The new 4020 series looks like a nice replacement for the 4010 series.

A CUT in the same size range would definately be cheaper. It would not, however, be as rugged as the 110. Whatever you decide, be sure to post pics of the new machine! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Re: I\'ve got $35,000 to spend......

A lot might depend on what you need the machine for after all the heavy work is done. A 110TLB is a heck of a nice small TLB - but it's got some limitations outside of hard loader or backhoe work. Primarily because the loader doesn't come off - that gives it strength but does mean you've always got it there - adding both bulk and weight. The base machine is also built heavier than the CUTs - for better (strength) and worse (ground compaction).

A 4610/4710 (or now a 4320/4520/4720) with loader and backhoe will not be as purely strong and capable for loader or backhoe work, but might be more adaptable and flexible for other duties. Also - I believe the 100TLB runs 'just' the 4610's motor (not that there's anything wrong with it) - but the 4710 and the 4320-4720 have more power (and PTO power) if that would matter in your duties.

4610's and 4710's with reverser trannys are probably tough to still find - but hydro versions should still be available new off someone's lot if your dealer looks around - and have a decent rebate going (might expire at the end of this month?)

Not to hijack your thread there, but I'd encourage you to read some construction magizines and do your research on the Kubota L48. Pretty well every source (and me), will confirm that its a better tractor for the money. It out specs the 110 in pretty well every area and is cheaper to boot.

Re: I\'ve got $35,000 to spend......

I'd look real hard at the 4320, with 400x loader and the 448 hoe. That should leave funds for a nice set of attachments like the MX6, a TR3, a gator, and other cool things...
