When I was reattaching my bucket after mowing last night I found that I had broken off one of my bucket attachment tabs. I run with the loader low for stability and visibility. I have occasionally brushed the ground when coming off or heading up my slope. I don't even remember hitting yesterday.

Anyone else have this happen? Possibility of a defect or poor design? See the attached pictures. The metal on the tab is VERY thin. Where it broke, the thickness is about 1/2 the diameter of the attachment pin hole.

I'll call the dealer today and see if I can get it handled under warrantee, but I'm not planing on running without the bucket attached any more. Guess I may have to invest in some front weights and take off the entire loader.

Wow! Bad news!

I have heard these things breaking before, because on the new "X" series loaders the entire Quick-Attach bracket is now a casting rather than built-up and welded. I think this was a very poor design on JD's part. Hopefully you can get this replaced under warrenty.

Unfortunately that part of the loader is cast steel which is fairly brittle . I wish that part was made from bar or plate. It would have bent instead of braking. All the X and CX loaders are now cast in some areas to save money.

Here is a POST I found after searching a little. I sure think this is going to haunt JD and owners after warrenty periods are over... /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I have an MX6 on a 4310 - you do the math.. I NEVER mow without the bucket on my 430 loader, and have hit things plenty of times. It never even occured to me that the koader wasn't up to this (and I still doubt there is any problem with mine...) I sure hope this gets resolved! Yikes!

I never thought I'd be one of those cantankerous old timers that liked the old stuff better... So this is what it feels like...

I had a similar situation happen with my 300CX loader. The tab on the right side broke. I took pictures to show the dealer - what I found was rust INSIDE the break. It looks like you might have the newer casting, but mine was welded and broke on the weld.

Thankfully, I have a great dealer. They came out tha evening (at 7:30 after closing time). Took one look at it and said, yes, this has been a problem with others and we'll fix it. They got the part and sent a mechanic to the farm and replaced it. No charge at all to me.

Not sure how Deere handled it, but my dealer did the right thing.

I was hoping the problem was cured, until I saw your post.

There has been a Deere Tech update regarding these parts breaking, stating that production was changed and newer parts are 50% stronger. They state that if 1 side breaks, both sides are to be replaced. Let us know if the dealer doesn't have this info.. and I can give you the case number.
good luck
