I found this John Deere 1010 with a wide front end. I have not set my own two eyes on it yet, have only seen pictures of it. Man wants 1000 dollars for it as it sets. He says it was/is and will be once again a great running tractor. He removed the head to have it worked over. Needed some new valves and springs. He stated that it has been magnafluxed and there where no cracks.

My question: Is this the old engine that has the plate and sleeves all attached together. I've heard about them but have never seen one. If so does it take any specialty tools to remove or can your average joe do it. Are parts still available? Overall is this a decent little tractor for a small acerage. Is a thousand dollars a good deal?

Here are the pics that I have seen.

Yes it has a sleeve plate. Is it gasoline or diesel? Diesel weren't as dependable. Value of tractor is determined by location and what's wrong with it. $1000 not too bad if you can get it to start.

It's gasoline. He has the head pulled off of it right now. Says he moved or found a new job 200 miles away and doesn't have the time to deal with it. I'm going to look at it this weekend if he makes it up this way. Atleast having the head off will allow me to look at it better, Right? Location wise, it's only 10 miles down the road from me. Heck I could pull it home lol.

Thanks for the info!

By location I meant Ok or CA or Ia or NY or Fl not minimum miles. IMHO gasoline engine is much better on 1010 than diesel. Diesel had a tendency to be hard starters, smoked excessively on start up and prone to cranking cyl heads.

I had a 1010 about a year ago. Gas, ran good, needed brakes. I got 1000 for it. I will send you email or PM about it.
