pony motor problem....need help

Dear Larson:

From Two cylinder Mag March 2013. I will check this tomorrow:

The V-4 Starting Engine on my "70" Diesel has been
completely rebuilt but seems to lack the power
needed to crank the tractor engine over properly. The
V-4 runs fine, a lot better now than it did before, but
under load it looses power. I hate to have to tear into
things after spending a lot of time and money on this
tractor, so was hoping you might be able to offer some
suggestions that would lead directly to a solution.

Check the clips used to position the ignition wires as
they go from the distributor to the spark plugs. If they are
pinching the wires too hard, a ground could be created that
only shows up under load. It's not an uncommon problem.

hello I just bought my 70 john deere I changed the oil in the pony I was having trouble draining it so I blue air back through the drain pipe it emptied filled back up went out an hour later and it was empty of oil I filled it again came back it was empty again where did my oil go

Read the operator's manual on how to drain the starting engine's oil.
Odds are the engine is still operating on two cylinders instead of four. Very common for mechanics to mix up the spike and spring loaded ignition coils and use the wrong wire on the coil.
