Have a question for any 2 cylinder gurus in here... Was wondering if you can change out a connecting rod on a 1950 G from the access plate on top of the motor or do you have to pull the valve cover and head and pull out the front? Thanks in advance.

Don't know the answer to that, but suspect need to do more than the access plate... Try looking over some of the youtube videos, one in particular is a series .. one of which is rebuild 002.. may have to get to 005 or 006 to see what you need.
John Deere Model A tractor rebuild 2 - YouTube

This may help you see what is "inside" of the G, and likely is close to the Model A.
Hope you let us know more about where you are at.

You can change a rod bearing but not a rod from the access cover. Head has to come off to remove the wrist pin.

Ditto what RickB stated.

Finally got to it here tonight and the answer is yes you can change the connecting rod from the top cover with some patience, just had to try it since they said you couldn't do it lol.
Just need to clean crank up a little and size up the bearings and it will be back together. Thanks for the reply's this site is awesome and very useful.
