Default DK-40 HST OR DK-45 HST

Whats the better choice to get the DK-40SE HST or DK-45SE HST. The Dk-40 has less horsepower and the overall width is less. Its seems like eveybody thinks the DK-40 is the best bet but i just cant make up my mind. If it not that much more for the DK-45 i feel that would be the way to go. Any thoughts?

HK45,

It probably depends on what you're going to use it for. Are you at sea level? Do you have lots of hills? Is it going to be used mostly for loader work or are you going to pull a 7' rotary cutter through thick stuff . . .

I have a DK45, and the reason I got it and not a 40 was because I got a real sweet deal on the 45. That being said, there is minimal differences between the two, but enough that if you are gonna need a little more PTO & HP, then get the 45. If not, then go with the 40.

Island Tractor will tell you about the 40's capabilities much better than I could.

It seems most people say the DK40 is the best bet/dollar. That said, I have a DK45SE same as PAhayseed and I am very happy with it.

The 40SE and 45SE are the same machine.
I just double-checked and the rear axle, rear axle case and trans case are the same part #'s
These parts would determine the width.
Engine size is the only real difference.
They also use the same size tires.
I think they have a typo.
The DK40SE uses the same loader as the DK45SE.
The pic below is a DK35SE-DK45SE and a DK45S
Sorry they are a bit dirty, we put down 75 tons of 304's and everything is "grey" now.
I need to put the 35-40 and 45SE's side by side now.
Like what others have said though....lot's of things come into play.
If you think you'll need the extra HP better get the 45SE

BTI, Thanks for the pics. I don't think i need a 45 horse i used to have a farmtrac 360 dtc that had 36 so i would like to stay around the 40 horse range. If it's only $1,400 more for the 45 horsepower I think i will go that route. If it was 2 or 3 more i would just stick with the 40. Thanks for the info

It was exactly 1k more in the quotes I received. Not sure if there was more wiggle room in one quote than the other because I'm not ready to get serious about prices.

BTI, are the 40 and 45 different years, or do they come with different tires as stock. The rear turn signals are different too.

The 40SE and 45SE come with the same size tires.
The old DK 40 and DK45 came with different sizes.
The old DK40, the new 40SE and 45SE all use the same size tires.
The Old DK45 and the new DK45S use the same size tires.
There are still a few old style DK40's on dealers lots.
If the 2 you are looking at are SE's, Kioti does make running changes from time to time, that could explain little idiosyncrasies.
But the machines, 40SE and 45SE are pretty much twins.
