Working the CK30

I got to spendsome quality time with my CK30 today. A good friend is putting in a 20x20 pole barn for his cows, tractors, and implements and needs to level a spot as well as build a road. He's got an Iseki TU180 with no loader so I offered to help him out.

First thing we did was move a brush pile. It would have easily taken him 30 minutes or more to do it with the equipment he has. It took me 5 minutes
The ground was pretty soft and I was worried about rutting the area up and not being able to move all that well but nothing slowed me down. I can not believe how well the machine goes, especially in slimy mud.

After moving the brush pile he cut 4 trees about 4-6" diameter and I used the FEL to dig them out. After that I used the back blade to smooth everything out. We then started cutting the edge of his drive (about 600') to allow water to flow off the drive into the new "ditch". We moved all the dirt and dumped it over the bank where the new road will veer off the main drive.

All told we spent about 5 hours out there. Had a great time. Here's some pics...

Yeah that looks a little slimy, no problem for a good heavy machine.

Are you able to angle the blade downwards to cut a ditch along the drive?

yea, I can angle the blade but I just angled the three-point instead. I'm in the process of lobbying the House Finance Committee for tilt&top cylinders. I've got the remotes so all I need are cylinders. I can have all the hoses made by the guy who's property you see me on in the pics.

A box blade would have been REALLY nice but I don't have one yet. I found a Land Pride 60" in really good shape for $325. I'm thinking about buying it. We're going to need it before too long on this project so he's offering to pay for it and we can split usage. He's only about 10 minutes from my place so we share what few implements we have between us. Works out really good.

The box blade is heavier, much more agressive cutting the ground, and better at transporting loose material from high spots to low.

In my opinion it is more of a leveling tool than the rear blade. The rear blade is good at spreading as well as moving material short distances and windrowing material. (is that a word? )

BTW, what part of NM are you in?

Great pics! They make me wish I'd have gone with the Ag tires like I originally intended.. I think the extra width would make me feel a lot better about the 20 degrees I was at today on the tilt meter :-P
