My CK27Hst will be at 50 hours in may. I have not decided to have the dealer do the service or just do it myself. Truth is, I'm a handy guy but not very experienced with engines. It is important to me that I properly learn how to maintain this machine. I have decided to use Amsoil synthetic everywhere. I was just wondering if I should do a flush to the engine and HST. If so, what product is best? I am not sure if the engine flush products are specific to gas or diesel.

Thanks.

Chris

Chris, I don't like oil flushing at all. Why flush at 50 hours? Let your filters do there work. Use magnetic drain plugs instead.

Here is my train of thought, flushing will get rid of all residuals and leave less behind when I switch over from dino to synthetic. Like I said, I'm not an engine guy. Just talking out loud.
Does the kioti come with mag plugs?
Btw, just checked my dipstick and the oil is crystal clear. :)

Why add something that is not oil cause you will never get it all out.Just get your oil hot, drop the drains and wait awhile.

At 50 hours, I switched my engine oil to Rotella synthetic 5W-40. I just drained, installed new filter and the synthetic oil. I used the synthetic on subsequent oil changes every 100 hours. Some members go 150 hours on synthetic. The engine has been fine with the 400 plus hours I have on the meter now. Others have many more hours than that. I wouldn't worry about doing a flush. With only 50 hours, you don't have any crud built up. About all you will see with the oil is a little pearl like sheen to the oil which is from all the new moving parts mating in.

If you are going to use Amsoil synthetic hydro fluid also, their site advised that you can go longer on change intervals, I think double, before a drain and fill. I would hope so because it costs twice as much. Normally it's every 200 hours for filters and hydro fluid is at every 400 hours. You'll probably want to still do the filters at every 200 hours but may be able to go to 800 hours before changing the hydro fluid. I did my first hydro change at 50 hours by the manual and of course, it looked new. When I changed again at 400 hours, it still looked new. Depending on your weather and temperature, I would just watch for any condensation and water retention in the oil.

If your handy, the engine and hydro oil changing will go fine. Partiall fill the engine oil filter and put some oil on the filter gasket before you install. Remember, there are two drain plugs in the engine oil pan. The hydro oil isn't much different other than you will have to catch @7.5 gallons of fluid. Fill the filters before you install. You will have the main drain plug in the center of the trans area that I open first. When almost empty, there are two drains at each end of the rear axle.

Thanks guys. I totally understand now that a flush is useless. Yes, using amsoil in engine, HST and front axel. I have all correct part numbers for it and the Canadian distribution center for amsoil is only 45 minutes away.
I do maintenance on my other machines that include replacing the screw on filters etc so this should be no big deal. The quantity of HST oil is crazy. 30 liters. I will have to get a huge oil catch pan.
The fuel filter looks brand new. Should I change it?

Thx

If it was mine, no.

Assuming your dealer allows it, the best deal would be to pay your dealer to do the service while watching and taking notes, maybe even a photo here and there to help you remember next time.

Synthetic is great (I use it) but you cannot extend oil change intervals (much) because Diesel soot builds up in the oil and an oil change is the only way to get rid of the soot. FYI some big Diesel motors use additional filters that can remove soot but our small engines just hold it in suspension until the next oil change. Good synthetic oils will keep an engine cleaner than dino and also make cold weather starting easier, but those are the main advantages.

Do not flush. Too many reasons to cover here.

I have no intention of extending intervals. $60 for oil and filter for the engine on a $20k piece of equipment. I don't cheap out on these things. :)

Hi Chris.

A couple of comments.

.) Since you already maintain your other machines, this will just be more of the same, only more fun.

.) I agree with Murphy. Do not flush.

.) I am surprised the engine oil is clear after 50 hours. It may look a little darker in the drain pan.

.) Buy your filters from a Kioti dealer. I love NAPA, but this is not the place to save a couple dollars. You may even wish to buy a couple extra to have on hand for your next service.

.) No, you probably don't need to change your fuel filter, unless you buy your fuel from a kid with a bucket.

.) You probably don't have to change your air filter, as pumpkins give off very little dust.

.) The factory installed oil and hydraulic filters are hard to remove, and when they do come off, you may have a mess. Have lots of paper towels on hand. The good news is that the new ones that you install come off much easier.

.) Have lots of paper towels on hand. or did I say that already?

.) Plan on at least 4 hours. Take your time, and have fun.

Thanks for the tips ON84. Ya, if I do myself I will order a filter kit. There is a guy on eBay that has complete oem kits for about $150 delivered. Just pricing out the oil and filters and it's gonna be in the $500 range total. The 30 liters of hydraulic fluid being the killer. Oh well. Maybe I'll win a few bucks this year at the weigh offs. :)

OK, Murphy, don't yell at me here! I agree that flushing is probably not needed BUT the owners manual does say to do it. Now, I've had my HST replaced under warranty, and if they'd come back and said I didn't do something that they required to maintain my warranty and denied the claim, I'd have been some PO'd. Now for that to have happened, the dealer would have had to have been involved in the decision and been passing information to Kioti, so if your dealer is telling you not to bother changing fluids, then you'll probably be just fine. My dealer not only said to do it, they included the labour, came to my house and did it for me and let me watch, take notes and ask questions.

Murphy, I know that you say the shop manual says you don't need to change the oil on the DK's. You'd probably have a good argument that you could probably win if anything ever happened (realistically, it never will), but I don't have a shop manual, and I just don't feel like fighting. For a few hundred bucks in oil and filters, I just did what I was told, right or wrong.

What do you mean in Flush? No fight, its your machine and I know you went thru some bs with kioti.

Sorry, I just mean changing the oil. I know the magnetic plugs and filters are there for this very reason, but I was shocked to see how much metal filings came out with the magnetic drain plugs. They were probably like that after the fist 10 minutes and I can't argue with your logic (from another thread) that if it can handle 50 hours that way, why not 400.

I'll be changing mine at 200 hours.

You talking bout engine oil? You not changing your breakin oil till 200?

Also, Ken. I can't find anything in the manual or service manual about flushing. ???? Also, does anyone have the manual (not service manual) on pDF? I like using me iPad as a reference. Just slide it into a ziplock bag to keep it clean and refer to it while I'm doing the work.

I don't have it in front of me, so I can't tell you exactly how it's worded, but it says to change (i.e flush) the hydraulic oil and filters at 50hrs.

Here is something my Kubota dealer said to try, and it may work for you too. He said to place a Shop vac hose over the HST fill hole. There is enough suction to allow you to remove and replace the oil filters, but not enough to suck all the Hydraulic fluid out. You will lose some fluid, but not very much. I have not tried this yet as I am only at 30 hours, but it seems like an excellent idea. If it works on Kubota, I would think it would work on Kioti as well.
