Hi folks,
My 2004 ck25 has a fluctuating idle and stalls when I accelerate or lift or move the bucket. I cleaned my fuel filter and changed my air filter. Any suggestions to help diagnose my problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Kevin

Well, it almost certainly is caused by the fuel system.

I'd start with fuel delivery: is there a blockage? Is the lift (feed) pump working? Hopefully it's one of these, which are cheap to fix. Start checking here.

If you are getting good fuel feed into the injection pump (IP) fixes get more expensive. Maybe there is a problem with the governor. Maybe the IP has broken gear teeth that jam in the rack (I have not seen this reported in a 2004 model). Maybe injectors are fouled.

do you have remotes? Are they dead heading? This can cause that too. Loader stall might indicate hydraulic deadheading somewhere.

When you have the problem fixed, Please let us know what the solution was. Thanks

i'd be leaning fuel too.

failure to make rpm , especailly on an unloaded diesel.. or stalling a running diesel ( especailyl with no load ). is generally starvation

You said you cleaned the fuel filter.....You may want to replace it.

The fuel lift pump is a diaphram pump that only puts out 3-4 pounds of pressure. Pull the hose from the pump to the filter housing. Put your finger over it and crank the engine. If fuel tries to spray out of the hose, you're good. If the filter is plugged at all, the lift pump won't push fuel through. Also, a member had posted he had something in the bottom of his tank where the fuel exits, no filter there, and it restricted the fuel flow which is gravity fed to the fuel lift pump. Pull the hose from the tank to the lift pump and see if the fuel flows out of the hose. Another member posted he had a problem with his fuel tank cap not bleeding air and it cause a vacuum in the tank. As the other members posted, it sounds like fuel starvation and the 2004 model years aren't known for injection pump problems. My 2004 has 600 hours and all is good. Hi Guys, thanks so much for the feedback. I am going to replace the filter first before I do anything else considering I am 3 hours away from the dealer. I'll make sure I have a spare on the shelf from now on. Thanks Victor for the part numbers I will try locally tomorrow to get one and I will post the results hoping it will help anyone else with the same problem. Thanks again.

PROBLEM SOLVED,
here's the rundown, I replaced the fuel filter and still got the same thing I didn't even pull it out of the garage. I called Proudfoot Motors and spoke to the owner Brock keeping in mind it has been almost 10 years since I bought the tractor from him he suggested I speak to their mechanic Dick. Wow is that good business or what ! After I explained the problem he said it must be some fuel flow interruption from the tank as he had found flies in the plugged filters in the past and suggested I should take the lines off and blow them out. I pinched the line coming from the tank and removed all the rest including the filter and bowl and blew them clear with the air compressor including the filter housing. I then drained all the fuel from the tank blew that line back to the tank then put the cover back on the tank and blew the air threw the vent to push whatever might be in the tank out the other end. Put everything back together, I put fresh fuel in the tank just in case I had bad fuel or water etc (may as well cover all the bases) and started it up - VOILA runs better than a Deer haha. Spent 7 hours on it today moving snow just between my place and my daughters not even a putter. I would like to say a great big thank you to all you guys on Tractorbynet.com and to Brock and Dick at Proudfoot Motors in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia . It just shows how valuable a forum like this can be and save someone a bundle of money by doing things yourself. Victor would you also have the product numbers for the air filter they sure come in handy on a local level. Have a happy tractor day. Thanks
Kevin

Here's an idea. Why not thank your selling dealer by buying some stock of OEM filters and have them sent to your door by UPS or 'Mountie' express? You owe them something for their help, IMHO.
