Dave: It sounds like you fixed the electrical problem, at least to the point the engine will crank properly but still not start. Diesels are simple in the sense they only need fuel, air, and compression to start. Assuming your air filter isn't plugged and fuel is reaching the injection pump (IP), I'd recommend you have your mechanic check the IP rack for free movement. This is easy to do just by removing the cover plate with the oil fill port on the right side of the engine. With the key off, the stop solenoid (SS) spring should push the rack full aft to the fuel-off position. I believe you are familiar with this spring pressure. With the key on, the SS should retract and allow the rack to move full forward and you should also be able to move it with your finger. If it's stuck in the aft position or binding, you likely have an IP problem as I mentioned in post #10.
