What is the experience/collective wisdom on tractor canopies? Painted steel or aluminum diamond plate?

Older postings show a preference foe metal over fiberglass. Is that still the consensus?

Does anyone have experience with/insights on/opinions about the metal canopies sold by Masters Farm Supply:
Masters Farm Supply in Altha, FL shows you how to order your tractor canopy.

Thanks
Scott

I have aluminum diamond plate on my 45 for several years now, best thing I ever bought. For a poor guy who cant afford Cab Tractor. I have hit a lot of brush with it and towed 75 MPH many times.

I was going to say that aluminum does not like a lot of repeated vibration and has a tendency to crack. You might need a lot of extra bracing. I have found this to be true with alum. (truck) tool boxes & fuel tanks but NC REDNECK seems to have no troubles with his so I'll shut up:laughing:
Probably the thicker the better, those truck side box's were VERY thin. (and VERY expensive)

I had a wells ag canopy on my 2008 kioti.IMHO there are hard to beat.

I am interested in the Wells product but none of the local dealers (I checked with 3) are interested in selling them and Wells doesn't appear to be interested in dealing direct, based on their web site. Or maybe I should call Wells direct and ask?

On the other hand, maybe Masters is actually selling Wells products? I've noticed a lot of re-branding in tractor accessories. My Phoenix finish mower is actually a SICMA (Italy), which is also branded as Kioti, First Choice, Unifarm, and others).

On my first tractor I put on a fiberglass canopy. It was from an old golf cart and it was free. It blocked the sun and rain nice but you had to be careful mowing around trees as it could be damaged. I actually got a lot of comments about how good it looked.
The tractor I have now has a homemade canopy with metal grating with a piece of plywood bolted to it. It is quite ugly but very heavy duty. I have broken a few tree limbs off with it when mowing.
Aluminum needs to be 1/4" thick to be strong enough for a canopy (in my opinion) and it would be very costly.
So, my vote goes for a good heavy duty steel cover.

I have an aluminum diamond plate on mine. No problems what so ever. Steer clear of fiberglass, steel and poly IMHO.
I'd call the company and ask for assistance.

Looking at the pictures I would to say that masters looks quite similar to the wells ag brand. The masters is priced good to.

Somewhere on this site I saw a company that made a generic canopy out of the same material that dumpster covers are made from.

They were $199 including shipping, I think, but I can't find them now. Shoulda bookmarked it.

Does anyone remember the link?

I"m gong to cross post this in the customization section.
