Hello all, I know this is a common question, but manual states 10W-30, 10W40, 15W40.
My farm is in Central IL. The coldest I think I've ever operated the tractor was around 10-15 degrees.
I have used the tractor with temps up to 95 degrees. What oil weight would you recommend?
Thanks

I have a DS4110 and I run 5W40 full syn. It makes for easier cold starts, and the 40 weight makes for a heavier film to reduce soot getting past the rings.

Either Rotella 15-40 , or the Rotella T6 full synthetic 5-40 will serve you well.

Rotella T6 5W-40 just for the easy Winter starts when it may be 0F and I don't have a block heater. Also good year round for me when it can be 90F.

^^^ 5w-40 Rotella for the WIN! :D

The low number says what its viscosity is at 0 degrees Fahrenheit: the "W" means "winter," cold range. 40 is the viscosity at 212 degrees Fahrenheit. In general, price not an issue, a lower cold viscosity is always the better one. (up in Canada 0w-40 [or 0w-30] is a lot more common, but, I believe, a fair bit expensive)

Generally speaking, the greater the spread in the multigrade, the more expensive the oil.

I致e used 0wXX痴 before, but generally you don稚 see the benefit until you hit sub-Arctic. The 5wXX痴 flow really nice at -25c, so that痴 good enough for me. Where you really benefit from the 0wXX痴 is with hydraulic oil, which doesn稚 heat up as fast as the motor oil, and can result in some really slow moving implements.

Rotella T-6 5w-40 year round is what I run.

If I had a french fry machine I'd be running T-6 5w-40 in it as well! (I'm switching back to it after running 5w-40 Delo LE (which I was getting for pretty cheap from Walmart); seems Chevron is changing their oils and right now 5w-40 isn't readily available; probably end up sticking with Shell now).
